Although the bulbs are an impressive size, and an attractive shape, the light source within the bulb appears to be a very small filament, presumably of very low wattage and not very bright.
Are these line voltage, 40 lamps each of 6 volts, wired in series on 240 volts.
Or are they extra low voltage worked from a transformer?
If a bulb that size is to be well lit, then I believe that they should be at least 3 watts each and posibly as much as 5 watts. The very small size of the filament suggests to me that these are much less than 1 watt.
Remember the old style of Christamas lights that used 12 lamps in series each of 20 volts, 3 watts, they are no longer readily available. The modern ones with similar size bulbs are less than 0.5 watt each and look miserable.
