A common Noma "Biscuit" bubble light with glass slug vial. The glass slug in the bottom of the vial provides an audible sense of the bubbling action in addition to the familiar visual appearance of a bubble light in operation. The glass slug is also said to increase the size of the bubbles produced in the vial so the bubbling effect is more easily noticed when placed on the Christmas tree.
