This early example of a Siemens & Halske lamp most likely represents the first form and features sheets of copper used to clamp the carbonized cotton filament to copper lead-in wires. The lamp is bottom exhausted thereby placing the obtrusive exhaust tip at the bottom of the lamp as opposed to the top of the lamp where it's prone to damage. This lamp uses an exposed contact lug base, unique to S&H. Later S&H lamp bases utilized a more traditional cemented base with an insulating material such as plaster or porcelain, but still retained the "duck foot" contact lugs. |
