This large Lane-Fox lamp is fitted with a brass base cemented to the lamp with plaster of paris. The lower portion of the base is removable via threaded construction as shown in the photo. The lower base section has a female thread at the bottom, presumably for connection to a gas light type pipe fitting. This lamp retains most of its original label that documents the lamp's electrical characteristics. The lamp employs mercury seals as described in the excerpts on this page. The previous owner of this lamp recovered it from the attic of a house in Copenhagen, Denmark during the 1970s. The lamp, and others like it, were to be thrown out by the home owner but luckily it was spared by the previous owner and has survived to this day. |
