comments
There are at least two (if not more) documented versions of the “genuine” Thomson-Houston lamp socket that all exhibit a similar appearance on the outside. The inner switch mechanisms varied, and it is thought the mechanism used in this particular socket was the first generation. This is evident from the use of red fiber as an insulating material. This design is documented in the March 27th, 1886 issue of The Electrical World and is considered to be the first of the “genuine” Thomson-Houston lamp sockets.
