Description
Early Edison lamps, fixtures, and various Edison reproduction lamps. Caption card on left reads "The earliest electric light fixtures consisted of gas light brackets and chandeliers fitted with exterior wiring and wooden sockets designed to receive the glass stem and terminal wires of the bulb. This concept was short-lived since the bulb could not be insterted in an inverted position. Bulb and socket: circa 1880." Caption card on right reads: "1879-1880: The first commercial lamps contained carbonized Bristol board (paper) filaments. These lamps were used in Edison's Menlo Park Laboratory."
