glow lamps
« on: September 22, 2002, 01:28:00 pm »
Hi All,

Does anyone know if sodium glow lamps have ever been made?
I have a very strange neon glow lamp with solid metallic droplets on the inner surface of the bulb. I have no clue which metal it is, and I think about sodium because it looks like those droplets found in SOX lamps.
I have also a couple of helium glow lamps (with one made by Philips, I think). What was their interest compared to neon lamps? The helium blue spectrum lines?

Thanks.

Max

Ah, another person with a helium glow lamp!
Mine has two H shaped electrodes, and when plugged into the mains it has a blue/lilac glow. The lamp is actually labelled as a 'Heliglow', and I've never seen another.

Sounds interesting, would it be possible to post a picture here of your Heliglow?  I'd like to see it...

I'll see what I can do, just a case of cranking up the digital camera! The glow is not as bright as a neon, but it is a really pretty colour. I wonder how true to life it will look on a computer screen.

Hi,

You can take a picture, and then modify its hue in order to have colors that match observations.

I have 3 or 4 helium lamps. One looks like a GE-NE34 with a T bulb and a B-22 base, and an other is like a standard neon lamp, with cup electrodes, T bulb with lens and an E-14 base.
