Modern Electric Lighting / SOX lamps, production ceased
« Last post by adam2 on August 30, 2020, 01:02:49 pm »
Production of low pressure sodium lamps, sometimes known as SOX lamps, has so far as is known ended.

There are still lamps in the supply chain and on distributors shelves, but production has ended, presumably permanently. Phillips Hamilton factory in the UK was the last maker of these lamps.
Led retrofits are available and give a better but very different light.

Antique Bulb Discussion / 1902 coronation light bulbs
« Last post by coolDude on August 28, 2020, 06:15:41 am »
Hi Forum members
Looking for some info.
I have two 1902 coronation light bulbs which still work!  They are opal, one has an etching of Edward VII and the other of his wife Alexandria at their coronation.  I have searched high and low and can find no reference to them.  I want to sell them but have no idea what they might be worth or where would be the best place to sell them.
Hoping that with all the lightbulbs here you might have come across these. photo attached
Thanks in advance

I am trying to figure out what on earth these are for. I have over 2,000 of them. The only marking on the bulb is 98l 015 and on the box it has hand writing of  1-15 015 and l1-g98. There is also in handwritten text "oven Conditioned'. I sure could use your guys help on this. Thanks!

Antique Bulb Discussion / Re: Bulb adapter?

Just ordered this 3 way mogul to 3 way medium adapter on ebay. Looks like the reviews are good. I will update after I use it for a while. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mogul-Three-Way-Light-Bulb-Socket-Adapter-3-way-Mogul-to-3-way-standard-reducer/283949894624?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Antique Bulb Discussion / Help ID this anyone?
« Last post by Anvil316 on August 11, 2020, 10:17:54 pm »
Sooo I have never seen a light bulb with what appears to have been hand soldered, solid wire filament and a hole in it. Does anyone have an idea what in the world this was used for? For the record, it still works, and it gets SUPER HOT, really quick. Thanks so much in advance for any information you can provide!!! I have pictures but this forum wont allow me to post them, too large I guess. Will send if anyone is interested.

Antique Bulb Discussion / Re: Need help identifying buld

Looks like a relatively high power carbon filament bulb. Known as a "concentrating filament" type.
Viewed from the correct angle, the filament appears to occupy a relatively small area.

Found this in an old barn, looking for any information I can get on it. I can't find any marking.

Antique Bulb Discussion / Re: Info on large 10kw bulb
« Last post by nkrames on July 06, 2020, 11:22:04 am »
Update/Edit - I believe it to be a late 20s/early 30s GE Mazda tungsten 10Kw similar to that referenced on this very site

Characteristics of Ten & Fifty Kilowatt Incandescent Lamps
by D.K. Wright & W.E. Forsythe
Lamp Developmental Laboratory, General Electric Company
http://www.bulbcollector.com/article010.html

There is an image of a 50kw iteration which appears identical in terms of filament structure, metal base with vertical slits and lack of tip. Only real difference I see is that of a shorter glass neck, which I'm assuming to be simply related to the difference in scale of the 10kw and 50kw .

Hello all - thank you in advance for your time. https://imgur.com/a/9nmgQWO Photos of the bulb at this link

Any and all info helpful - can't locate much. No maker mark - Manufacturer, time period, use of this (I'm assuming movie set spot-lighting or some sort of general search/spot-light), etc. Metal base with a thick knit cloth between the glass and the metal, assuming to be an insulator. Assuming tungsten crystals/powder in the base? Lighting material appears "in tact" however a hairline crack along the upper portion. Acquired from someone who said they believe it to be 30s/40s - only markings are inside on the bottom of the glass, of MP 70, 10 KW and below that a seemingly 175 (maybe not 175, but instead R5?) with an nondescript symbol/letter after.
