It has always been my dream to stumble upon the ultimate collector bulb, a Bristol cardboard filement 1879 Edison made within days of Edison's first successful and commercially viable bulb of October 21, 1879.
Well as fate would have it, my dream was realized last week when I got a hot lead from the Portage Museum of Incandescent Lighting. A mega-rare bulb surfaced having been found in a second hand store in Arizona. It was among some estate possessions of Edison's third cousin, Harold O. Edison. I immediately contacted the lucky owner and a deal was made over the phone. Within 24 hours I had the magnificent bulb in my hands. But even more lucky for me, this bulb would have been listed on E-Bay if it were not for a simple connector problem between the owner's camera and his computer.
It never ceases to amaze me how wonderful and rare bulbs can pop up in strangest places. Just keep looking and you might find a wonderful treasure of your own!
