That would possibly be a European lamp - or at least the base is. Sounds like what we call in the UK, a Small Edison Screw base, otherwise known as E14. It is our equivalent of the Candelabra Base.
We never had C7/9 style lights here, the closest we get are series wired strings using almost C7 sized bulbs, and with far too much insulation and waterproof seals. Next size up is the full household-bulb-size lamps, in even thicker, heavier cords and sockets.
It`s no wonder outdoor decorating here never used to be very popular. Low voltage miniature lights have been a bit of a revolution in recent years, though we`ve got a lot of catching up to do!
