Unusual lightbulb?
« on: July 23, 2010, 10:55:29 pm »
Hello, helping a friend identify his lamp and bulb.  Bulb is about 6 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches at the widest point.  Pic not too clear but inside the bulb the filament is a group of twisted wires with leaves attached.   Would appreciate any help in id'ing this item.  thanks.

It is a common glow lamp but very attractive nonetheless, especially when working. The leaves should light green and there should also be either a bird and/or some flowers along with the leaves that glow a different color (violet, orange, etc)

Looks like the lamp has had extensive use and is probably not functioning its best. Does any portion of the "filament" still glow on 120v? Probably very likely it was made by Aerolux. http://bulbcollector.com/gateway/Gas_Discharge_Lamps/Argon/Aerolux

Thanks Nick, I looked thru the reference you provided and did find an Aerolux bulb that came very close to the one my friend has.  There is one in the 1970-1974 catalog that is very similiar with the flowers, leaves and heart.  His has the same pattern except without the heart.  I don't like to assume, but after looking at so many bulbs am gonna assume that this is the company and the approximate year it was made.  The bulb does work and provides a nice glow tho I feel it is on its last leg as the illumination is not very bright any more.  Thanks again, and hoping you have a nice day!!!
