Sylvania Lightbulb Pack
« on: August 28, 2004, 10:02:00 am »
I have a Handy 5 Pack carton with Sylvania light bulbs.  They are packed in an egg style carton.  The carton has a Good Housekeeping Seal.  The side of the carton states: 50W  250V  Inside Frost.

The bulbs themselves have the markings of  Sylvania 50W 250V with a Sylvania logo in the center. The glass is fairly thick.  They have a standard size base.

Can anyone tell me the timeline on these?  Also any other information you may have on these bulbs would be interesting to see.

Hello,

Your egg carton pack is probably from the 1940s or perhaps even the 1950s.  They sound like fairly common household bulbs however the voltage rating may suggest another purpose.  They aren't too collectible right now but I've always found the packaging for these bulbs interesting

I remember this packaging in the mid-to late 1940's. I recall that the advertising for Sylvania went something like: "Don't be a dumb cluck, buy your light bulbs like you buy eggs"
