Do you agree with me in that sometimes people's perversions come to light when they try to describe the part of antique lightbulbs that we all politely know as the "tip"?

I hate it so much when it happens...

My uncle would have called it the "tit", but I don't think I'm at all perverse in calling it a "nipple". Many things other than body parts are called nipples, such as short lengths of pipe or electrical conduit, as well as any protruding part of similar shape to the fleshy kind. What about the working end of a baby bottle or pacifier ("dummy" for any U.K. readers)? Is it perverse to call those things nipples, when their existence is specifically intended to duplicate the natural kind?

Well, I just don't like it when people start using those words for everything, it makes me think they're always thinking of genitals and sex. I mean, why does it have to be a sex-related word?? Why not just "tip" or the like? I don't understand. I also don't understand why some people call their cars "she" or "he" instead of "it", but that's another story, and it doesn't annoy me as much as the other thing anyway...

I have absolutely no problem with the end of baby bottles being called nipples; Whether I get annoyed or not depends a lot on the context; If the thing in question has absolutely no relation to the real thing other than the shape (for example, antique lightbulb 'pontils' or 'tips') then I see no reason why it HAS to be called a nipple. There is a strong relation between ends of baby bottles and nipples because the former is supposed to be a replacement of the latter, so I am not annoyed with that particular use. Actually the only use of the word I currently know of that bothers me is in describing lightbulb tips.

Sorry for the rant, I had been holding this for months...
