CFL's, by nature of their electronics, aren't easily made to be dimable. If you run them on a standard dimmer, you'll burn them out prematurely. Also, as gnildir1 said, you need to think of how you'll dispose of them when they burn out. They contain large amounts of mercury, especially for their size. The other thing to watch for is that a lot of the ones made now aren't of the highest quality, and there have been cases of them catching fire when on a standard, non dimmable circuit due to cheap construction.
