1MW lamp
« on: December 06, 2003, 05:09:00 am »
Between 1955-1960 mounted in our capital Praha the russians tubular, water cooled xenon middle pressure (1atm) 1 meter long lamp, as gift of UdSSR government to Czechoslovakian government. The lamp was mounted in top place of building "Penzijni ustav" in quarter Zizkov (Praha 3). The wattage was 1 000 000 watts. Unfortunately a water cooling was insuficient, and the lamp (fused silica)past about one hour goes out of service, because it looks as arch, but down. Lower part of tube melted second glass cover and it was an end of Russian miracle. I saw the rests in Praha?s office of Public Lighting. the lamp was about 1 m long, looked similarc as Osram XBF GIGANT, with massive tungsten electrodes.
