The Reliance name can be found on medium based decorative lamps imported from Austria and Japan and is also a name associated with vintage Christmas lighting. Reliance was an importer of decorative electric lamps based in New York1. One particular style of lamp the company sold and imported from Japan is the star shown above. Such lamps were marketed under the "Rosettes" name and were sold for a few years during the 1930s. They were also sold by other companies including Paramount. Curiously, the patent listed on the bottom of this lamp references the Elmer J. Graf "Kristal Star" patent (US Patent No. 2,031,642). This lamp has a "diamond H" marking on the underside, probably identifying the Japanese manufacturer. This mark can often be found on similar Christmas lamps from this era imported from Japan. |
