Title: Bulb Identification
Post by: rick on November 06, 2006, 10:59:10 pm
Hello all,

I picked up this bulb the other day and was wondering if anyone out there could help me identify the maker and year of production. It's slightly larger than a baseball with a T.H. base. Horseshoe filament is thick and unbroken. Interesting feature is that the base contacts are screwed on. Sealant is plaster rather than ceramic. Lable is present, but un-readable. Seems heavy duty like a street lamp. I appreciate any help.

Rick

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the forum.

This is a street series incandescent lamp and probably dates to around 1890.? This lamp is very similar, if not the same, as others that I have seen manufactured by Bernstein from the late 1880s.? In making this observation, I am looking particularly at the filament lead-in wires and the two glass "legs" that surround them which protrude from the stem.? The base is probably a mogul Thomson-Houston type.

This is a nice early collectible lamp and quite sought after among collectors.? Great find!

Well thank you Sir, I had an idea that this lamp was pretty early by the plaster sealant, but 1880's? That's sure a day maker. I appreciate the help. I guess this baby moves to the top dsiplay shelf.
