Title: Light globe age

Hello all,
I have just joined this forum. I have a carbon filament light globe made by Osram. It is a 16 candle power globe. It has a bayonette fitting.
How old would this light globe be ?? A friend
of mine said it could date back to the 1920s
Any ideas would be gratefully received !!

Hi Glen and welcome to the bulb forums.  It sounds like your bulb could date back to the early 1900s but I'm not entirely sure the dates that Osram stopped producing carbon bulbs.  Maybe some of our European readers can narrow down the date.

This bulb still works - it produces a rather
dim orange glow.

Hi Glen!

Are you able to provide any more details of your bulb or maybe even a photo?  Then hopefully I may be able to identify the date more precisely for you.

Such details as the country of origin, the precise wording any any other codes marked on the bulb would be very helpful.  Also, does it have a small glass tip on the crown of the bulb, or is the shape more like a modern household bulb?

Hi James,
thanks for your reply.
The bulb has no small tip at the top and it has
"Made in Holland" stamped on the top where the
candlepower rating (16 cp) and manufacturer
(osram) are also stamped.

It was given to me by a friend who had it for
many years and he could not remember where he
got it from. I will try and organise a photo
of it.

Hi Glen,

I've never seen any Osram bulbs which have been manufactured in the Netherlands. All I knwo is that those are from Germany. So I think you have a very special one.
