The latest addition to my collection is this magnificent bulb, and I`d like some help IDing it. Does anyone know anything about it, I`d appreciate any help you can provide.

sorry- perhaps I should say how big it is too? Well it`s 6 inches overall tip-to-base, and 3 inches diameter. The glass portion itsself is about 4 1/2 inches measured from the tip.
thanks,

Great looking bulb Chris! I have no idea who made it, it's difficult knowing without the original label, but it looks early - mid 1890s I'm guessing.
Wish I could tell you more. . . . .

These bulbs are used in a darkroom when making photographic
prints. The red color does not ruin the paper.

That's my guess as well-a photographic safelight. Either that, or some sort of power-on indicator. I've seen some older equipment that used edison base indicator lights,to tell if something is on from a distance.Or maybe some sort of warning/alarm light, but I'd go with the safelight guess.

Yes it does look a bit like those early carbon filament christmas bulbs doesn`t it. However it`s about 5 times as big and has a standard Edison base, the following picture should illustrate this. I`ve got quite a few of the little miniature-base christmas bulbs too- they`re some of my favourites...
