Where are you from? I know a place in the UK that sells transparent bulb paint that is intended for painting small car bulbs. It goes on thin and needs a couple coats I have found- I`m painting a few thousand xmas lights for my display this year and it`s taking forever!

waxacar.co.uk or search Ebay for the ID "waxacar"- he sells it there for lessthan the web site. If you`re out of the UK, I don`t know if he ships overseas, or what payments he can take- but it won`t hurt to ask.

I tried some on a small 15 watt mains bulb, but it quickly faded, so I`d be willing to bet it won`t be too much good for larger ones. SMall xmas light bulbs should hold up OK, they better had, I`d be very dissapointed if all that colour I`ve spent the last couple months painting on, fades and flakes off in the first week.

Well only time will tell.....
