GE 10W colored bulbs in adapters
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:15:03 am »
I have a collection of different color GE 10W intermediate bulbs they are in adapters that say either NOMA or Rodale. I thought they where large Christmas lights, but they may be sign lights. Does anyone know what they are used for and how I can test them in these adapters. Thank you

Can you post some photos of the bulbs and the adapters?

those are most definetly sign light bulbs, but many times municipalities would also use them for christmas lighting. In fact, the town of Moltrie GA still has a wonderful display with the town square festooned with these lightbulbs at christmas. I just bought four of them at a yard sale for 15 cents and have used them as an oversized string of lights for christmas before. The bulbs I got are from westinghouse and yellow/orange in color, rated 11w at 130 volt and are indicated as for use in signs

as for the adaptors, usually the base will spin off as it is attatched to a small bolt with a small nut encased in the plastic base, after removing te base you would find two pins that would make contact with the pair of wires used as a stringer. they still sell the adaptors at most hardware stores, including Lowes and Home Depot. Just attatch the socket to a string and you can easily test the bulbs and create a new stringer for decorative use as well.
