A few months ago I came across a neon bulb type that I had never seen before on eBay. They came in a typical small orange box marked "Westinghouse glow lamps", but the shape of the bulb's electrodes is very unusual. Are these early indicator bulbs of some sort? Or just a different style? Or a highly sought-after style maybe? I'd love to know more about these.

I?ve seen a lot of weird looking neon lamps but nothing quite like this one. Do you have one in possession ? are there any markings on the glass or the box that would identify what type it is (NE-xx)?

Looks to me like an early version of the NE-45 indicator lamps:

The glass bulbs and lead-in wires look identical, only the electrodes are different to my eyes. The crude bent wire shapes could have been the first version of these lamps, with the more elaborate "top hat" stamped metal ones coming later on. They could even be experimental or prototype versions, you never know.

Hi, I just took a look, and they are indeed NE-45 bulbs! They have faint stamping on the glass. I would've thought that the different electrode shape meant that these bulbs had to be something other than just NE-45, but now I see they are.
