Hello all!
Yes I am new here, but the photo's I have attached are why I am here.
I was rescently given this by a friend that found it.
I have searched the internet, lightng suppliers, old dog electricians etc. and can not identify what I have here.
I am hoping that someone here will be able to tell me what this is and what it was used in.
Have a look and let me know what you think.

I'm guessing you have a "festoon" lamp, a small tubular lamp with a contain on each end. I thought that might be a blackened HID envelope in there but now I see it isn't...

Not really my area of expertise, but I think that could be a surge arrestor of some kind. That sort of thing gets used in telecommunications equipment to safeguard against lighting strikes and other sources of induced voltages, or at least it did back in the day. It certainly doesn`t look like a lamp, and not any sort of resistance device I`ve seen before. If it`s an anti-surge unit, that might explain its removable-looking design, in order to facilitate replacement following "operation" much in the way a fuse would.

This thing came off of an old fire watch tower.
I have searched fuses but didn't think to look at arrestors.
Yhe search continues! I will update the post when I find something out.
Nick I will also check around to see about it being a festoon lamp. I had first thought it may have been a lamp for a signal light but can't find any thing that evn looks remotely like it would have used it.
