Title: Newbie needs info on flashing/blinking bulbs
Post by: rch427 on January 05, 2003, 04:54:00 pm
Hello --

I'm trying to find some information for a project I'm working on that requires some blinking lights.  Christmas lamps with the bi-metallic strips came to mind, but I don't know enough about them yet to determine if they are the best solution for the project.

This project is to produce a seemingly random flashing light.  I realize that the bi-metallic flashers produce a fairly regular flash (once they're warmed up), but I think I can get around that by running different blinking bulbs in series, with the bulb at the end of the series flashing intermittantly and infrequently.  Make sense?

Can anyone tell me if the bulb with an internal, bi-metallic strip is the only form of blinking lamp (before the modern, computer chip era)?  IF so, when were they first manufactured, and was there one maker who predominated?  Does any company still make them, and if not, where else might I be able to buy them?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers --
