wooden box
« on: December 05, 2001, 12:02:00 pm »
I recently acquired a wooden box, 6 X 9 X 6 1/2 tall, finger joints on the corners, with an elongated hole on one end to serve as a handle, labled  EDISON LAMP BOX.  Does anyone know what this was used for?  It seems big for one bulb to be packed in.  Any idea what it's worth?  Thanks, Tim

I've seen these around too and have always wondered about them.  Surely someone out here must know what function they served, time period???

I've seen them sell between $25-$75.  About three years ago a local dealer had a set of three, each a different size, for around $250 if memory serves.  Too much for me regardless...

Another thing I noticed is there is no trace of a top ever being on this box.  No nail holes or screw holes for a hindge or anything of the sort.  Could this be a drawer to some kind of hardware store cabinet?  Seems strange that there is a handle on one end only.  I don't know.  I'm still looking for the answer.
