Title: GDR Era 60's or 70's bulb?
Post by: Waring on September 17, 2006, 09:59:36 am
Hello all...
I am just back from a holiday in Berlin and bought this fantastic GDR-era lamp in a flea market. Upon returning to the hotel with my bargain I realised that, in my excitement at the bargain price, I had failed to notice that what I assumed was the shade was, in actual fact, the complete light bulb.

I didn't reckon that there was much chance of this bulb still working or even making it back in one piece especially after a RyanAir flight to Birmingham, but to my delight (when carefully turned up on a variac) it is fine. It will now live connected permanently to a dimmer and used at a low level so hopefully shouldn't blow for many years.

What I want to know is has anyone seen bulbs of this size and shape before and if so, can they still be obtained? Just for reference, the screw is a standard domestic ES size, and the bulb diameter is 100mm.

Any ideas?

Seeing as I couldn't upload all three photos on a single post - here's the lamp with the bulb in situ - looks like a shade, doesn't it? ;)
