Loststar,
The first person who comes to mind is Lewis H. Latimer. Here are two sites about Latimer that I have bookmarked which detail his life and contributions towards the incandescent lamp. I think you'll find them interesting and helpful:

Yes there was, his name was Lewis Latimer. You might like to see the following Gallery picture, the description accompanying it give more details...

Although Lewis Howard Latimer comes to mind, one should not forget Garrett A. Morgan who is credited with inventing the first traffic signal light. More about him at: http://education.dot.gov/aboutmorgan.html (http://education.dot.gov/aboutmorgan.html)

I didn't notice that the question asked about a black person who might still be living. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the name of Frederick Mosby. I had the pleasure of working with and for Fred. Fred was one of a group of four (or five) persons who developed the regenerative cycle incandescent lamp at Nela Park in Cleveland. You can read about Fred at: http://www.americanhistory.si.edu/lighting/mosby1.htm (http://www.americanhistory.si.edu/lighting/mosby1.htm) or: http://www.americanhistory.si.edu/lighting/thteam.htm (http://www.americanhistory.si.edu/lighting/thteam.htm)
