I finally got logo to work so you can go directly to album.
Thanks to Tim and Pete,it makes me think that's what the holes in glass is to add liquid and warm it up.
When I got the bulb I was told it was used to fumigate.
The resistance with tag in is.372 k ohms.
After many different methods my good wife came up with the following stamp on bulb.
40w+vulcan-0+105-115v made in England

Hi Bill,
In reference to:

This is one odd looking "bulb"! I can't be of much help on this one but I bet someone else out here can ID it for you. My guess would be some type of ballast tube and I bet that center section contains some form of resistance.

I think it is some kind of fragrance lamp. That's why you have to remove the paper and uncover something before using it. it's only a guess though.

I kind of get the impression it's meant to be used base up,in a ceiling socket, with a liquid inside(deodorant/disinfectant/insecticide,or some such)-maybe for industrial/institutional use. Just a guess, though.

Hello, That Vulcan lamp or should I say heater was used in conjunction with tablets of I beleive was called Aldrin as far as I can remember but has been outlawed since. The tablets were pushed thru the holes 6 or 7 at a time these then melted with the heat and provided a vapour which kiiled the pests. The approx date these were here in England must of been the 60's and had the BC cap, Think I have one in the loft. Hope this helps. Peter.
