Title: 1956 NOMA Twinkle Lites
Post by: Hemingray on April 17, 2005, 12:36:50 am
Found a set of NOMA Twinkle Lites (1956), unfortunately whoever last owned it left 13 incorrect replacements (C-6 cone). any idea where I can get these little flasher bulbs? they're made by GE and are 6v. there are 7 remaining to the set, one is burned out, other 6 work great.

Are these the little tubular shaped flasher lamps like those found on the transformer sets?

Here are the pictures.

I'm a bit too lazy to make a layout, but did label each file appropriately. there is also a 644KB movie file of the remaining 6 flashers (one is dead) in action. have fun

EDIT: ISP is intermittently closing port 80.

So which ones are the Flashers the Clear Colour or the other ones?

did you check out the .AVI (video) of the bulbs in action? it's quite awesome.

the 6-7 clear ones at the top are the original flashers that were made for/came with this set. the other 13 are standard C-6 cones, meant for series lamps. they glow dimly since they're meant for 15-16v use, but are only getting 8v from the transformer.

do you have the latest version of Media Player (Ver 10). If you're still running 95, Winamp 5 will handle WMV just fine.

erk, first thing I'd do is scan for malware (Use ad-aware, Spybot SD, etc). if that doesn't help, back up your personal data, format and reinstall Windows.

hm, well, if it's still crashing even though all that was done, I'd suspect either bad hardware or hardware drivers. check into that when you can.

For what it's worth, my home computer plays the AVI file fine, while my work computer doesn't since I'm missing the required codec for Media Player.

Nice set of lights!  Good luck finding replacement lamps!

Not at all. Lionsdenantiques.com sells a pack of 25 or so at a good price. I tend to order them in the multicolor option.

Regarding twinkle lights in general, I found this quote from the Christmas Eve 1973 edition of Time Magazine, and I hope it will be an encouragement to always manufacture twinkle lights (C-7's + C-9's):
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: A 6-ft. Christmas tree lit by 75 standard bulbs burning four hours a day would use 290 of power a week, a relatively harmless indulgence.  A tree decorated with 75 twinkle lights would expend 170 of electricity a week.
