Glowiing Ecolux Arc Tube

(1/1)

pSlawinski:
I have a 100W Ecolux lamp.? I ran it for a second and then turned it off, to my suprise the arc tube kept glowing a deep blue color.? Can anyone explain this?? http://www.metal-halide.net/index.php?id=gallery&cat=HID&scat=HPS&bulb=LU100-ECO-NC

Max:
Hello,

This blue glow is the fluorescence of the ceramic arc tube which has been optically excited by the shortwave UVs emitted from the xenon discharge when you ran the lamp the first few seconds. This fluorescence only exists when some specific dopants are present in the alumina of the ceramic, and thus not all lamps show this phenomenon.
