Title: Finally a science kit for building a lightbulb
Post by: Yoshi on September 04, 2004, 01:42:00 am
Hello fellow collectors,

I've seen a few people on this board who had an interest in making their own lightbulbs. But apparently up till now it was impossible to do without proper access to expensive industrial equipment. But I found something that could change that. It's a small science kit for making an incandescent lamp. See here:

I already ordered one for me, I'll let you know more about what's included after I receive it, and maybe post some pics. I would guess it comes with a good vacuum pump. This kit is among the clearance items of that site, so I wouldn't expect it to be available for too long. This kit may or may not enable you to make your own custom lightbulbs but at least it lets you make a functional, incandescent, vacuum lamp.

Regards,

-Yoshi

Hi M?nico  (http://www.bulbcollector.com/ubb/smile.gif),

I haven't tested it, but here are some pics of what's included in the kit:

The kit came in a simple plastic bag containing all the items on the pictures above. It is made by a small company, www.harris-educational.com. (http://www.harris-educational.com.)

Hi!
What a cool vacuum pump! a huge syringe and two gas valves!
Would be effective enough a such pumping system?
Please, tell us any news (and pics) when the lamp will be working.
Only a question Yoshi:
I've seen the tungsten wire supplied with the kit; it's labelled at 30 ga. in diameter. What are the exact equivalence btw. a such gauge and milimeters? It's to have an idea about magnitudes.
Best regards,
M. Gonz?lez.

P.S.
Enjoy your lampmaking experiments!
