Title: Birdseye RCA lamp found
Post by: KT66 on May 24, 2011, 10:32:54 pm
Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I've always had an interest in early light bulbs but never started collecting them. I've been collecting vacuum tubes for years. Last week I bought a couple boxes of radio/audio tubes and when I got them home I discovered this RCA advertising bulb. This site shows it to be from the 1930's. I'm now wanting to collect the Aerolux type of bulbs as well as early light bulbs. Here is a photo of the RCA tube.

Nice find!  I bought mine several years ago at an antique radio swap meet, but it didn't come cheap.  Thanks to eBay, these have become much more common in recent years but still a very good find and always in demand among advertising and radio collectors.

Thanks Tim. Yes... I've seen a several recently that are in collections as well as one that was on Ebay. I saw two that have areas of the neon dark or spotty. I'm guessing this is from alot of use.
It is very cool and the ST shape really makes it stand out in a Tube collection. :-D

Here's some more information about this bulb, courtesy of an old Tube Collector's Association club newsletter:
