Hi, I have new info to add about these bulbs... They costed 40 cents in 1951, as shown in this 1951 magazine ad:

In comparison, normal 60 watt GE bulbs costed 10 cents in 1945.

Hi,
yesterday I was curious to know more about my mushroom-shaped bulb. I made better pictures, and I found no only that the stamp is WESTINGHOUSE, but also, that - the stamp is placed on INNER side of wall! Still I found one very interesting decorative bulb from GE. Both pictures I sent to Tim, that I don?t know give the photos on this place. If do you have interest to see more, give me know. Stan

Hi Stan,

My GA-50 bulbs also have their stampings on the inside. Does your Westinghouse bulb look exactly the same as the GE ones? Perhaps Westinghouse copied the design to sell these bulbs in Europe? Or perhaps GE copied them from Westinghouse? Who knows...

Hi Joshi,my lamp arrived from Australia, I am not able find any difference between GE and W lamp, they are practicaly the same, with except of base (GE=bayonet, W=E27).I think, that originaly it was made by GE - see Ed Covington reply. I have still one very decorative pink bulb (GE), if do you want see it, give me your e-mail, because I don?t know give the picture here. Stan

Certainly GE also made them for Westinghouse as well.  When I looked after GE's European historic lamp collection there were a few GA lamps there, one of which in Westinghouse brand was broken.  The stem press inside the lamp bore the factory ID mark of Youngstown, a GE plant.

Inside marking was a common feature of GE lamps at one time.  Clearly it means the mark cannot be wiped off in service, which is why I guess is why it was brought in.  Personally I never liked the idea as the solvents in the ink could carry impurities into the lamp and reduce its life.
