Old GLS lamp, 50 volt 300 watt.
« on: January 09, 2013, 12:36:38 pm »
Have purchased a NOS 50 volt, 300 watt GLS lamp, large screw base.
Dont really have any use for it but wanted one before they all disapear.
These used to be commonplace for factory lighting if the supply was at a voltage too high for filament lamps, a transformer would then be required for lighting and 50 volts was often prefered over 120 or 240.

50 volt lamps used to be slightly cheaper and slightly more efficient than 240 volt ones.
The internal construction is very similar to 240 volt lamps, though not identical.
In years gone by, I used 50 volt, 100 watt lamps in series groups of four for lighting a large marquee or tent. The supply was about 200 volts due to voltage drop in long cables.

AFAIK they have not been manufactured for many years, though many suppliers still had a few on the shelf, and some probably still do.

If anyone else wants one, they sometimes turn up on ebay.
