Post by: Stan on November 06, 2003, 05:50:00 am
Friends,
many years ago I asked bulb, daylight, partialy frosted, tip, under name WATRA. 120V 4x25W, E27 base with wire changer. Four tungsten filaments every 25 watts, lited in 25W steps up to 100 watts. Do you know this factory name and this lamp? Stan

Hi Stan,

I have seen a lamp similar to this, but made under the name Brittania.

It is in an 80mm diameter globe, and has four 25W ring-shape coiled filaments.  The four filaments are stacked above each other vertically.  It has a bayonet cap with a push-button switch on the end of a long hanging cable, and each time you push the switch it lights up an extra filament to give you 25/50/75/100W.

I believe this lamp was made by Metropolitan-Vickers (Metrovick) factory in Brimsdown, London around 1925.  Is yours similar?  I will try to do a photo.  Probably quite a few companies made this kind of thing in the early days.

Best regards,

James.

Hi Guys!
Such a lamp sounds like a fantasy film gadget!
I would like to see a picture of that interesting bulb.
