Replacement bulb for Matchless Stars

(1/1)

joebulb:
I have some Matchless Stars c-6 and have replaced a few burned out bulbs by using a dashboard bulb from a mid 60's GM car. I use the original matchless base and solder the leads from this bulb to it and then epoxy the bulb to the bottom of the inside base. Anyone know of a better way?? The original base of the Star must be used as its bigger than any c-6 you regularly see...Thanks Joe.

I don't know if you can use a bubble light(C6) replacement in a matchless star or not. But this bulb has a long base on it. I know the C6 bubble light bulbs can be purchased and if interested I can give you the link for it. In fact once in awhile the ownwer of that enterprise checks in this forum. By the way the last matchless star I repaired was with a auto dash light. Good Luck Bill

The best bulb for re-lamping a vintage old C-6 100-500-700 series Matchless Star is the GE640 bulb which was last produced over 60 years ago. They are available on eBay ever so often. Stay away from China long shank nickle based bulbs or square flat top bulbs as they burn too hot and do not have longevity.
