A strange question probably for UK enthusiasts... does anyone know why the plastic skirt on a batten-type bayonet lamp holder is called a "Home Office" skirt ? Apologies for going slightly off topic.

You know, that`s the first time I`ve heard them referred to as "Home Office" lamp holders. I`d be interested to know too!

Hi Chris - yes, I have been aware of this terminology for a while but do not know it's origin. I have emailed MK Electric to see if they know - they use the abbreviation HO in their catalogue.
The subject just came up at work the other day when someone wanted to order a lampholder from CPC - see http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CPC+Catalogue&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=261445 (http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CPC+Catalogue&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=261445)
