Title: Osram-GEC MBM/U Mercury Lamp
Post by: sailormoon_01_uk on November 21, 2009, 04:58:22 am
Hi All

I wonder if anyone has any Technical Information on this Lamp see Photo attached

On the Bulb it has Osram 40w MBM/U, it has a P28s or Medium Prefocus Cap it looks similar to this B.T.H. Mazda 40w MBM/U Mining Lamp on Lamptech's website see http://www.lamptech.co.uk/Spec%20Sheets/Mazda%20MBM40.htm , except it has a 3 pin BC or B22d-3 cap.

Also does anyone know a compatible Ballast to test the lamp

All the Best

Colin

I like to thank James Hooker for information on the Osram GEC MBM/U mercury Lamp, the Lamp was used in the lighting of Mines and was specially designe for approval for the Mining Industry

The Lamp Letter Code is as Follows

M = Mercury Vapour
B = Quarz Arc Tube (High Pressure)
M = Mining Applications
/U = Universal (Any) Operating Position

He also advised me on a reccomended ballast which unfortunately has failed but I got it working on a European 35w HPS/MH Ballast the results are as follows

Supply voltage 250 volts
Ballast Type = PARMAR 35w HPS/MH Reactor Ballast (Choke Type)
Lamp Voltage = 100 volts
Lamp current = 0.56 amps

He advised me I may require to give the Lamp a High Voltage kick by using a 35/50/70w HPS Ignitor or a Tesla Coil (I don't Have), howeber the lamp struck without any starting aid.
