Title: Uncle Tungsten
Post by: glimmerglow on January 26, 2004, 10:57:00 am
Don't know if this is old news for the group: Oliver Sacks authored a book several years ago titled Uncle Tungsten: Memories of a Chemical Boyhood. The book is a memoir of Sacks' childhood,in Britain during the Second World War. Featured prominently in the story is an uncle who owned a light bulb manufacturing company named Tungstalite. The uncle was fascinated with incandescent lighting, while his brother was fascinated with "cold" lighting devices like fluorescent lamps. It's a great read if you like lighting, chemistry, etc.
